Invitation Letter
"The Japan-Vietnam Economist Club Preliminary Meeting" in Hanoi

How are you, your family, and your work? I hope everything is going smoothly.

As you know, GRIPS has created a web site for Saitama/GRIPS Vietnamese alumni and plans to start some intellectual activity in the future.

At the same time, Prof. Tran Van Tho (Waseda University) and myself launched the "Japan-Vietnam Economist Club" (JVEC) in Tokyo last month, together with Vietnamese students studying economics in Japan (not just GRIPS).
This is a forum for conducting monthly workshops and publishing research and proposals in Japan and Vietnam. We will cover any academic topics related to Vietnam's economic development.
JVEC will initially be supported by GRIPS. If successful, we hope to create a more formal economic association.

It is quite possible that, in future, intellectual activities of the Saitama/GRIPS alumni association and JVEC will overlap.

I am visiting Hanoi on a JICA mission from June 29 to July 2. We will host the following meeting. If you can make it, do come to this meeting and join the discussion.

Purposes: -- Introduce outcome of NEU-JICA research
                   -- Introduce JVEC
                   -- Discuss Saitama/GRIPS alumni matters

If you can attend please let me know by writing to Azko Hayashida, my research assistant at GRIPS. I know some of you are very busy, but I hope to see as many faces as possible. We may even have dinner after the meeting, if time permits.
