2023/August  Received the award of the Foreign Minister's Commendations
On August 22, Izumi Ohno received the award of the Foreign Minister's Commendations for FY2023 in recognition of the significance of her contributions to the promotion of international cooperation. 
Since 2009, she has played a central role in bilateral industrial policy dialogue with the Ethiopian government and made significant contributions to Ethiopia’s industrial development through high-level forums and working discussions, as well as direct dialogues with former Prime Ministers. In addition to serving as the director of JICA Research Institute, she has led the GRIPS Development Forum as a professor at GRIPS, promoting practical and policy-oriented research on international development.  She has also contributed greatly to the promotion of Japan’s international cooperation by serving as a member of councils and expert panels of the government (MITI, MOFA, MOF, etc.), JICA, and other organizations concerned with international and economic cooperation. 2022/January  The Book, International Development Cooperation of Japan and South Korea: New Strategies for an Uncertain World, just published!
This book, edited by Kwon, Yamagata, Kim & Kondoh, is an outcome of collaboration between JASID and KAIDEC. Prof. Izumi Ohno and Sayoko Uesu (research associate) contributed to chapter 7, "New Partnership with the Private Sector in Japanese Development Cooperation," which explains the emergence of new PPP for SDGs and its characteristics, with case studies of the Lake Biwa Initiative, SATREPS in Tunisia and Mozambique. 2020/March New article of International Development Journal:
 "Era of Digitalization and Industrial Development of Developing Countries"
The East Asian "Flying Geese Pattern" of development, based on regional production networks among economies with different levels of industrialization ranging form labor-intensive to capital or knowledge-intensive manufacturing, has been traditionally regarded as a successful development model. Now, the digital revolution, by promoting labor-saving technologies, is bringing new challenges and opportunities for development paths. What impact will digitalization have on the future of industrialization in developing countries? Here is an article by Izumi Ohno, Adjunct Professor of GRIPS, who contributed to The International Development Journal (Feb. 2020) as an editorialist.
