Izumi Ohno received the award of the Foreign Minister's Commendations  
(Aug. 2023) On August 22, Izumi Ohno, the GRIPS Development Forum, has received the award of the Foreign Ministerfs Commendations for FY2023 in recognition of the significance of her contributions to the promotion of international cooperation. The Foreign Ministerfs Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas.
Since 2009, Izumi Ohno has played a central role in bilateral industrial policy dialogue with the Ethiopian government and made significant contributions to Ethiopiafs industrial development through high-level forums and working discussions, as well as direct dialogues with former Prime Ministers. In addition to serving as the director of JICA Research Institute,  she has led the GRIPS Development Forum as a professor at GRIPS, promoting practical and policy-oriented research on international development.  She has also contributed greatly to the promotion of Japanfs international cooperation by serving as a member of councils and expert panels of the government (MITI, MOFA, MOF, etc.), JICA, and other organizations concerned with international and economic cooperation.

Japanfs postwar high growth: Interview for African audience 
(Jun 2023) At the request of the Brenthurst Foundation (S. Africa), K. Ohno did a two-part podcast interview on Japan's post-WW2 recovery and high growth. It discussed the path from war devastation to high income, Japanese politics of high growth, social impacts of high growth, the meaning of monozukuri, policies to cope with gaps and other growth-caused problems, and implications for Africa.

Records of Ethiopia-Japan Industrial Policy Dialogue
(Mar. 2023) GDF and JICA conducted Ethiopia-Japan Industrial Policy Dialogue from 2008 to 2023 (15 years). We have discussed and executed many policy actions with Ethiopian government including kaizen, industrial policies in East Asia, export promotion, investment attraction, industrial parks, the opening of JETRO office, productivity and FDI studies, automotive assembly and apparel. As we close Phase 3 of this dialogue, the records of our visits to Ethiopia (38 times) and third country studies (18 times) are published in four books.

Japanfs Industrial Policy Dialogue with Ethiopia 2008-2023: Achievements and Challenges 
Co-hosted by GRIPS and JICA

(Mar. 2023) GDF organized a Zoom webinar jointly with JICA on March 3, 2023 to share the 14 year-experience of Japanfs industrial policy dialogue with Ethiopian leaders including its impacts and limits. This was a semi-closed webinar with international experts from development partners and research institutions, but we are happy to share the presentation slides.
